Just a reminder that the annual 10k inline race on Joint Base Lewis McChord is this Saturday morning. Unless something changes there is onsite late registration.

If the weather man is right don't know if I would want to fight that much rain.

Ah oh well Tom, I could have gotten you on base. Yeah rain and wetness is not our friend. Gives me a chance to try out the Storm Surge wheels though. Oh yeah, still in WA until 13 December.

Good luck, Dale.
I normally do that race any time that the conditions are dry, but this year, they are not.
Will be running with my family instead, getting ready for a couple of running races i will be doing with my son next week.
If i dont see you before you leave, it's been great skating with you and i am glad we had the chance to hook up. I hope i've been a help to you with your skating, besides just the knuckleheaded dude that's always skating away into the distance...

Nah Barry, it was always fun to skate with you guys. Most of my issues are equipment related. Still trying to get that right. Customs are the only real fix. The boots I have now are not a long term solution. I have a stock 41w which fits the foot bed better but the ankle is not tight enough.....to much play despite heat molding several times.

Today I had brand new straight out of the package storm surge wheels, I knew I should have scuffed up by a few skates first but this event was the 1st time. wheel base slipped a bit so I had to hold it back a bunch so 10k was just over 31 minutes. Oh also only three skaters signed up and only two showed up. Myself and really tall fellow named Justin? Anyway it may make JBLM question if its practical to still open a event to skaters.....just saying don't be surprised if they stop offering it. Had a great time though.

Dale, good to hear.
Have you tried the ezefit booties? They can pack out the ankle area a little.
As for slipping in te wet, i know how that is- the NYC Marathon course this year was just wet in enough spots to cause me to slip and lose any kind of sustained effort. That;s just the way it goes.
Hope they don't cancel the Ft Lewis event in future years, but it just about never is dry for it. It would be great if they did the event a couple of months earlier.

Dale, if memory serves you are not new Bont Zs, correct? I have found ladder lacing the top two or three eyelets helps tighten up the top of the boot pretty well. I usually tie some small knots in the laces where I want the lower parts to be loose and ladder lace the top to make it very tight. I also have 2mm EzeeFits. I found the 1mm booties left too much space around the ankle.

I am ladder lacing, been doing that since '96. I will eventually fix the issues at hand, sooner or later but hoping for sooner.

I may stop in Cali to see Glenn K. on the upcoming move, perhaps he can help get the molding a bit closer and fit me for customs too.

entirely depends what you are looking for. The best part isnt shown on this map, (Use this map instead: http://transparentfog.com/trails/) and is the Sammamish River Trail, which connects to the Burke, and heads east for another 13 miles. FOr best speed skating, the section between Brackets Landing (on the map, called "Trail to UW BOthel) and the Northshore Athletic fields is by far the best (a 5.5 mile stretch). The west side of the lake is kind of crowded with many road crsings and driveways, but scenic and leisurely. north of the lake is a bit faster but has a lot of trail stuff going on so not ideal, either (though Log Boom Park has excellent trail access and parking). The far east side in Redmond is crowded.
I always park on the side of the road at Brackets Landing and skate to either the Northshore Athletic fields or a mile further into the north end of Redmond, and back, and maybe do that twice on a longer skate.

Yah - I'll be poppin in around Mnt Lk Blvd.

I need to be at The Mountaineers Program Center around 5. Looks like the trail to Bothel will not be too convenient since my time is short. Maybe I'll just pack my skates and go for a walk if it's too congested.

Would not be a long skate but with road crossings and ped traffic by the UW.
Getting off the trail to the Program Center is a step hill maybe a little more then a block long. A good place to walk it.
