Default Rink Skates versus Outdoor Skates

Hello all,

I'm glad I found this forum. My husband and I have taken up quad skating. Like most of us, we skated quad skating as kids and inline skated when we were a bit older, but we're starting from scratch as beginning quad skaters.

Currently, I'm using Ridell artistic skates at the rink. I chose the artistic skate because I do want to take lessons.

I decided I wanted a pair of outdoor skates as well because I didn't want to tear up my wheels on asphalt. So, my husband and I both ordered Riedell's Zone outdoor skates (mine are on backorder). We went to the rink the other night and my husband (who had been using rental skates until now) had trouble with his skates sliding on the floor whenever he did a front crossover (around corners). He felt like he had no traction, even when he was going straight.

What kind of skates do most rinks use as rental skates? He found those much easier.

We're wondering whether he should get a pair of artistic skates like mine, and we should save the outdoor skates for the outdoors.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Lauren

Just run two sets of wheels, one for indoor and one for outdoor. If you want to make wheel changes faster, then get an extra set of bearings (and spacers) for the second set of wheels.
