Default The Off Topics Forum is Closed (Here's Why)

Announcement by SkateLog Forum host Kathie Fry

THE OFF TOPICS FORUM IS CLOSED:
The off-topics sub-forum is now closed and all of the past discussions have been deleted. The political and religious rhetoric that has increasingly dominated that forum has no place in a discussion group established to bring skaters together and share skating information.

This is also the reason Jessica's new SkateDebate Forum does not have an off-topics subform. You can see the rules for her new skating forum here:

Thank you!

The opinions of some were an embarrassment to many.

A HUGE THANK YOU!!

I stopped coming regularly because of the constant political rants by a few members. I thought that's what FaceBook was for.

I like free speech. Off Topic, in the end, was a horrific study in censorship. Well, attempted censorship. I always got the feeling that Kathie was a free speech sort. It was FASCINATING how some people just want to stifle and control others. Skatedebate won't have off topic. That's cool. I ran a large Marvel group for a while. 40, 50k. 2nd only to the Brazil group. I ran a tight, focused ship. TOO MANY PEOPLE. You had to.

re I thought that's what FB is for. Free speech? Ah, no. No free speech there.

Guess that more than cuts some peoples post count in half. Heh. It's for the best. IMO. "Off topic" doesnt mean "let's post political bs every chance we get"

We had(or have) one individual on the log who had created over 500 threads in OT in less than 8 months, with virtually all of them being politically based. Or just out right false BS. It routinely turned OT into a dumpster fire.

There are a few people downloading the entire site for indexing purposes, I guess taking OT out has simplified that

Thumbs up

Thank you so much. That sub-forum seriously degraded this place and made it harder to browse. The "new posts" feature was constantly dominated by political posts. I started complaining about it and am glad the administrators have taken action here and at skate debate

I won't miss the Off-Topic "Discussions". But now you are likely on the Deep State member's list! Thanks for closing this vile place. Cheers.

Made it harder to browse? What? So you guys were forced to look at only one small area of the forum... lol right. I find that really not true. But I do find that hardly anyone else posted in other parts of SLF. I posted in the quad forum a bit but there was little interest in anyone else trying to revive it. Everybody went straight to FB. IT'S a little late to blame people in open forum for others lazyness or lack of interest.

People posting in one area is hardly dominating. You want to keep it alive I suggest being a diehard poster.

I'm watching the new forum, no difference. If ya'll wanted to keep it going, you should have posted. If you don't do it on the new one, good luck keeping it alive too.
