FROM SKATELOG FORUM HOST KATHIE FRY IN MARCH OF 2020:
This announcement is to let everyone know that after hosting the SkateLog Forum and its predecessors for nearly 20 years, I have decided it is time to permanently turn the forum over to a new owner and administrator. I cannot think of anyone more suitable to take on that role than my SkateLog forum co-host, Florida skater Jessica Wright. I am pleased to announce that Jessica has agreed to establish and host a brand new skating forum, configured like the SkateLog Forum, but with a new name and a new Web Site. This new forum is 100% owned and operated by Jessica.

NEW FORUM NAME: SkateDebate Forum
NEW WEB SITE: SkateDebate.com
NEW OWNER AND ADMINISTRATOR: Jessica Wright

Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Please start a new thread for each new question.

Default Only one way to tell

Go out out to the nearest Highway/Freeway at night time and roll your skates out into traffic.

If they stop dead in the middle of the road and get hit by a truck/car..

Then there Kangaroo for sure

I bought some 295 for one of my sons. Guy said they were Roos. They are dated 1982. Size 6. Has 11 eyelids. Has riedell stamped on the tongue. Whatever they are, they are super soft. I have an old set of 8wheel boots that feel the same. Also I bought a 265 around 1980 that was sold as roo. They were super soft too. They were stolen a few years ago. Riedell did something different, and some of the boots have a better quality leather for sure. Someone should find some ads or something.

And here it is.
The one sure fire way to tell if you have kangaroo.
It smells completely different!
Is usually thinner and very supple.
It looks just like very fine grade leather. But can have nicks and scratches in it.Cause those critters fight.

Riedells of that time were marketed as "Kanga-Tan" leather. It was really just fine grade cowhide, but it was very nice. The real kangaroo stuff went out in the 70's.

My 295's came to me in a box that looked so old that it was a burnt brown color. It was 2008 and they were NOS. The leather is very thin, soft and blue underneath the black paint. If they ever made boots in kangaroo leather then these are it. If they are not kangaroo then I don't care cuz they're hella comfy.
