Thumbs up Rollerbones Turbo Prototypes Round 2

I got home yesterday to another package from RB - containing 2 very different types of wheels.

First: was a set of 62mm wheels made with the 103a compound found in the Bones Elites. I've been jokingly calling them the Bones Elite Turbos. These wheels feel VERY hard, and the finish on them is super smooth. I can't wait to roll them! One thing I like about these is the lip is nice and rounded, so there's no harsh edge on the side of the wheel.

Second: was a set of 59mm 97a wheels. These wheels have a very different profile on them. Although they have a lip, the edge is quite sharp. I have to say - I'm digging the bright green. I'll post more info as the week goes on....

Green look the same shade as their Deanos. They should just quit dragging their feet and bring them back!

Thumbs up Just what I was asking for...

....Too funny, I asked for something like this in the bones snakes review thread, I would by the 103 urethane on turbo hubs for sure! I would love to see these hit the market before my roll-line grease wear out.

To quote myself from that thread.... "Back to Bones review, any higher duro coming out? I would love to see the bones elite urethane, either 101 or 103 on a wide hub, 38-44 mm "

If I had a vote, I'd vote for the lip on A instead of B. I like the rounded lip.

Agreed. I prefer a rounder edge. I find the squarish lips sometimes trip me up.

awesome looking wheels!!! put me down for a set.

the square lip would be better for me....they tend to round off after I skate them for awhile.

Good looking wheels, it would be good to hear your review on them once you have rolled them, especially the 103a's.

Default Hmmm

Both of these I think would go well on the banked track at Timaru next year.

Love the look of them. Think they will make great road wheels on the right track.

Default Finally Rolled the 103's

Rolled the 103's last night! Holy crap! What a wheel!

First impression: scary as hell! They were so slick, but rolled SO
smoothly. About midway through the session they started to break in,
and were hooking up nicely. I can honestly say, it's the most unique
wheel I've ever used. The response and floor feel of an art wheel, but the profile and overall feel of a speed wheel. footwork with
these wheels is the effortless. In the shuffle line, they are so quick, I didn't even have to try keeping up, and I could just worry about footwork. Speaking of footwork, the lip of the wheel is rounded, and shiny. When you get the wheels on their sides the edge of the lip is pretty slick, so that took a little getting used to.

I've heard art skater talk about the 103 Super Elites saying that they grip if you "keep the skates under you." That's pretty much how these wheels are - only the sweet spot is a little bigger.

Even while I was breaking the wheels in, when I threw my weight into
the turn, they would slide and then hook up predictably. One other
thing about these wheels were the noises they made. At our rink, we
like to stomp in our shuffle line. These wheels are super loud when you
do that-- love it!

When I ran a few speed laps on the wheel, they really woke up. They
gripped really well considering the hardness but were so unbelievably quick. When I pushed really hard, I did feel them slip at the end of the stroke. I think that was due to the slippery lip. The only downside to the wheel is, because of its hardness, I could feel every crack and imperfection on the rink floor... but hey, they're 103's, not a set of cushy 84s.

I had a fellow shuffle skater roll them tonight as well. He didn't
give me a thorough run-down, but the smile on his face said a lot. He
mentioned that he really liked the roll and smoothness. He was doing
some nice footwork on them, and he loved the looks of the wheels.

I can't really say much more about these without sounding like a total RB fanboy. I'll just say the 103a compound on that hub is the deal! I know most of the manufacturers like marketing wheels to the derby crowd, and it was so nice rolling a wheel that - as far as I can assess - has no real derby function whatsoever. These really feel like the perfect session wheel. The 103a Turbo is pretty much the opposite of an Atom Poison.

Rollerbones... You HAVE to make this compound in production!

Thumbs up another vote for the 103

These wheels need to make it to production. There is no other wheel with an alloy hub that big uretahne that thin with a duro that hard.

The high-speed heavy weight skaters demand this wheel!

Great review! Bprendie, do you mind telling us what you weigh? By the sounds of it, I'd probably want something with a little more grip, but probably in the 99-101 range if anything. Shoot, I'd still give them a try though!

I'm in the 300plus club . For most of the people - 101 would probably be ideal.

Although, the one guy at my rink who rolled them and liked them a lot weighs about 160 or so, and he didn't have any problems.

Default OH MY................

I just ran across this thread and all I can say is WOW!!!!

Thanks for the excellent review and write-up! I am down for at least one set of each of these, if they ever become available!

Speaking of which, what does that actually depend on?

Last input I had from Powell was there were adhesion problems with the tires and they were not going to release them until it was resolved.. BUT there were no hard tires then.. Maybe this was the answer..
