![]() Hi, again and thanks to all for the support with my previous new Deano V1 hub log. My name itīs Paco from Spain (Europe) and my passion itīs quad speed skate. Iīve race about 17 years on quad speed skates at national and international level until 1994 (last years skating on Boen Special 170 and Chester CH20 Boots until the arrives of inline speed skates) also Iīm quad speed skate coach at national level and at this moment Iīm working on computer engineer area. For this V2 Hub Iīve working with 7.5mm from bearing spacing, removing 2.5mm only in front of hub respect the original Deano hub that has 10mm of bearing spacing to allow mounting, this hub, into the “modern” quad skate axles and also in old Boen, Wip, Rogua, Faster, Galaxy, etc, quad speed plates. For this new design, Iīve change a little the angle of front hub wall to remove some material respect V1 hub making the same width in top lip than original Deano and also Iīve changed the design of the splines with a splined similar as the old aluminum Labeda hub or aluminum Vanguard fanjet hub splines type with a higher striated to prevent that tires rotates into hub. The main great problem Iīve seen itīs that working with ALU on this design increases a lot the weight respect V1 delrin. The weight raise until 63g… I could work with a design like old Wicked Lip hub or Labeda Turbo hub adding several holes but, if itīs possible reduce the weight, I prefer the conical shape of original Deano. But like itīs a first prototype, Iīll work to change the design with several radius (four or five) instead of holes to reduce weight. Best regards from Spain. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by ALBERT.PACO; September 16th, 2013 at 07:34 AM. Reason: Add pictures. |

Okay I need a picture of the front bearing installed.
If the front bearing is counter sunk you can change the taper on the front of the hub so the bearing sits flush with the taper. You could also shape it more like my Super Enforcer to save a little more weight again. Here is a picture of my Super Enforcer its deep dished with a radius at the botton. See how shallow the bearing seat is. When the bearing is installed it sits flush with the hub. ![]() Okay Paco with your English not quiet perfect here is what I mean by counter sunk. Look below. The wheel on the left is an old Enforcer with no pretty holes see how the bearing is sunk into the hub. We call this counter sunk. See how the wheel on the right has the bearing sitting even with the hub? This is called flush with the hub. ![]()

Okay Paco because you can't drill bigger holes all the way through here are 2 more options.
Drill through as you have then get a bigger drill and only go half way through. Another idea would be to drills you have and then slot the front joining up 2 of the holes and then make the slots taller as well. Both ideas add extra processes and cost but you need to get the weight down. Personally I'd shape it like my Super Enforcer.

Hi, Scott, thanks for your quick reply and for your explanation about counter sunk. When I read it I did not know what it meant and I was going to direct the g**gle translator.
![]() This afternoon when I return home I'll make a picture of the front of the hub with a bearing installed to see if itīs counter sunk or flush with the hub. Iīm thinking that itīs a great suggestion to make V2 hub with a similar shape like your super enforcers. Also Iīm thinking to remove the 12 holes to leave this hub with four radiuses and also could be down these four radiuses in a similar shape of your super enforcers to reduce weight. I think that ALU 6061 itīs hard, but I donīt know if hub could be break with only four radiuses. ![]() Iīm sorry by the bad quality of this images but Iīve drawn this quickly in a moment. ![]() |

Hope you don't mind Seņor Paco, but since some people here were not able to see you facebook galleries, I stole some wonderfull adds and uploaded them so everyone can see.
I did not stole all your wonderfull pics of galaxy, vanguard and kryptos wheels, but i'm sure most people not using facebook would be happy to see them. Good luck with your hubs, the 4 big holes design seems very nice, hope 6061 alloy can hold it. |

If you go with a miro bearing you can offset some of the weight gain with the alloy hub by having lighter bearings.

Have the splints been machined in as opposed to pressed in with a knurling tool on the lathe?

Hi, yes mi idea itīs, if I continue with this project, make two version of this hub, one for standard bearing and another for micro bearing. And Iīll change the design to accomodate micro bearings to reduce weight.

Hi all again.
First of all my apologies for the time it does not write in this forum. But I'm working out of my city and I'm a little busy, but I'm still working on the design of this new Deano hub and soon I hope to upload photos of the new design that I'm working. Greetings from Spain. |

Beautiful!
My suggestion - I find an odd number more pleasing to the eye....so maybe 5 splines. Would also give more strength. |

I think itīs a very good idea. But at this moment Iīm thinking in a design more or less like Radar Devil Ray (see pics on google) with only three radius and compatible with Deano tires for save weight. I donīt know if this design will be sufficient strong in aluminum. |
