Default team skating a marathon?

Has anyone done a team-skate at NSIM or Apostle or Chicago? Team can be any size (maybe, maybe not)... but time is taken when the last of the first 5 cross the line. NSIM requires at least one of each gender, one of each gender must be of the first five (so ten guys can cross early but time not taken until first gal crosses).

This sounds like fun! Would be a new challenge for clubs. A good way to share strengths and smooth over weaknesses among friends. Maybe a good way to have a friendly competition between teams within a club!

Anyway... wouldn't need to have a "team" competition officially recognized by the event... just know in advance amongst yourselves that a couple of clubs are going at it head to head and when results get posted you decide amongst yourselves who won.

New strategies, new paradigms, new race dynamics. What's not to like?

It could be like the team time trial races that they used to run at the Metrodome marathon. Could work well at Northshore. Probably not so good at Chicago where it can be hard not to draft due to the bidirectional traffic on parts of the course.

Why not draft? Have you seen the team TT on the Tour De France?

to tell the truth, I don't understand what you mean by this. What does "bidirectional traffic" have to do with anything?

edit... also, as a 'team skate' of course you draft as a team. That would be an integral part of the whole concept. As a team you share pulls, work climbs and descents according to individual strengths, etc. Kind of like Longtrack Ice Team Pursuit.

I meant that one team shouldn't be allowed to draft off of another team. Each team puts forth an individual effort as a team.

The bidirectional traffic means that on a two lane road there is skaters going in both directions which makes passing as a team (i.e. no team should draft off of another team) rather difficult.

thanks for explaining! the hair-splitting part of my technical nature brings me to say then... bidirectional traffic isn't the real issue but rather the fact that everyone is forced to stay within the confines of a single traffic lane at certain parts of the course. Of course... NOBODY wants to be passing when going thru the sections where the pavement is literally falling apart and traffic cones may or may not indicate the hazards.

taking a bit of levity from the 125s thread... I thought of how funny it would be for a couple of recreational crews to skate as "rebels" and Vader/troopers. Maybe even have a couple of lightsaber duels along the way.
