Here's Ralph trying to earn a bag of coal for Christmas!

No way though, my thanks to Ralph, Marty and Corey for one of the happiest years I can remember.
Merry Christmas guys.

I think I have a picture of that club taken in '62 somewhere.

Dominic was the organist there at the time. During evening sessions there was always a trios session, during which some of us would go up into the organ loft with Dominic and sing old standards - it was called Singing Trios. Does he still do that?
The Moonlight Rollerway in Pasadena closed down long ago.

Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, CA. is still alive and well. Dominic own's the rink and has like forever. Yes, Dominic still plays LIVE organ music every Tuesday Night (Adult Night) 8:00pm-10:30pm. There is no Singing Trios there anymore nor do I ever remember seeing it done since I've been going there which has been a very long time. Yes, Bill is still there as well teaching skating and whatever else he does.

I would love to have a copy of that picture of Bill Madigan from the '61 Nat's. I'd like to put it up on the Moonlight Rollerway MySpace site.

My name is Johnny Sharp. I played organ in northeastern Ohio roller rinks from 1971 to 2007. They included, in order, PAINESVILLE ROLLARENA, BEREA ROLLER-BOWL, SKATE WORLD, LORAIN, OHIO, BROOKPARK SKATELAND, CLEVELAND, OHIO. I provided recordings, or appeared at special events at SKATE STATION, BRUNSWICK, OHIO, ROLLERDROME, EUCLID...SKATE WORLD, SANDUSKY, OHIO...ROLLERCADE, MANSFIELD, OHIO...AND on rare occasion, subbed for Bobby Freeman at ROLLER PALACE, MAYFIELD HTS, OHIO.

In the 1970's, as a member of the NIGHTROLLER'S SKATING CLUB out of Brookpark, Ohio...we regularly skated to MARTY DUMIC on the PA/OH line, in UNITY, OHIO. Always a great crowd on Saturday night...and what's more...our "FLEA HOP" style was well received...as we learned a little something about shuffle skating. That rink has long been torn down...but does anyone have any memories of the place? I recall WE ALWAYS HAD A BLAST THERE! Especially during the STROBE LIGHT FLEA HOP!
I would wager...Marty would remember that!

I'm new on SkateLog Forum...but, fascinated by the many responses coming from real skaters, all over the country!

My ROLLERrewind Channel on YouTube features highlights from my long playing career in rinks. Search "ROLLERrewind" or "Johnny Sharp".
I look forward to reading and responding...Thanks. Js

Welcome aboard Johnny! I bet you and Marty are gonna have a heck of a dialouge! Dropping names, as many years as I skated to and played Bill Clark's music, I never met the man. I hear he'll be at the Florida Extravaganza for the farewell session, so will I....wish me luck!

Bill Clark can still rock!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FECHEnKiqNk

Finally met and skated live to the legend. First video I've seen with some Retread Shuffle too. Not great, but better than this time last year!

Hi Folks. Just recently discovered this forum and the Blast From The Past rush was mind boggling. LOL

You should enjoy this contribution... The "Greats" all together. Can anyone ID the rink? Pics are date stamped 1987 on the back.

I know that it's Marty and Ralph and is that Bill Clark ?
Hopefully someone will answer your question about the rink.

Where do you skate now??? Marty is still playing at Olympic (Enola Pa.) every Tuesday evening. Ralph is still at Holiday (NJ) and also plays at Sportsman's Hall MD along with Corey and occasionally Marty on Sunday evenings !!!

Thanks for the memories...

Hi Regina,

Yes, that's Bill Clark. From the few postings I've read, I thought you and Retread would especially like those pics. I think it might be Hagy's?

I feel a little stalkerish because after I found this forum I've read some and tried to personally identify a few posters. We may have crossed paths. So it's only right that I "come out" and do a little intro.

I'm Jill and the "all time great" (certainly in my mind) Bill Clark is my father.

I pretty much gave up skating in the late 80's due to hooking up with a non-skater hubby (gaaak!) as well as just moving to different interests. Then moved too far from any real rinks. I mean ones that didn't cater to kids and records. LOL

So, for all you eastern PA / NJ folks, I may have seen you at: Reading Fairgrounds, Pike, Ringing Rocks, CC Skate Ranch, CC&M, as my "home" rinks over the years. Or a wandering visitor at who knows how many.

Hi Jill !!! I don't think I've every met you... but... you never know !!!

Love your comment "moved to far from any 'real rinks' " !!! Ain't that the truth ! Sadly that is why you don't see "families" skating together anymore !!! " The parents (adults) can not tolerate the crap they call music in the rinks today.

CindySk8's, from this forum, skated at Pike and CC&M back in the day. She still skates and so does her dad. He was in the FleaHoppers back then... you probably know her !!! I hope she sees your post !!!

"PIKE"... that's a name this is not mentioned on the Forum often !!! I started skating at Pike around the time your Dad left to open CC&M !!! But did skate to his music only a few times before he left.... Oh my, what a time to "start' skating.... Pike when Bill Clark was still there, and the FleaHoppers came on Saturday night 2nd sessions !!! It was "learn to skate or get run over" !!! LOL And what a better crowd to learn from !!! I met my husband at Pike 35 years ago and we're "still" married and came back to skating at Olympic about 4 years ago ... best thing that could of ever happened for us.... Your dad stopped in about a year ago at Olympic. and played a session with Marty, "what a great night" ... whenever these organists get together we are all guarenteed a good time !!! Hope when he visits the family here is PA again he will stop in to play with Marty again !!!

My husband just looked at the pic's and said he thought it was CC&M or perhaps Kimberton.... it's definetly not Fountainblu though ! We skated there in the 70's and early 80's.

Retread (Bob) will be thrilled to read your post and see the pic's !!! Him and his wife have had nothing but fun since they started skating again !!! You really should come down to Sportsman's Hall some Sunday evening when the guys are playing... "what a beautiful rink" !!! Here is the link to their web site, go look at the pictures see how beautiful

http://www.sportsmanshall.com/index.php

My daughter in law's definetion of skating :
"dad (my husband Kenny) can be sitting like a zombie staring at the TV, fall asleep with the remote in his hand, BUT, put a pair of skates on his feet, roll him onto the floor, and he comes to life again" !!! And Jill, that's the truth. And that's not bad for a 64 year old !!!

Thanks for the info, pleasure to meet you and please keep up with the forum information !!!

Oh my, I think your hubby is the winner! I can't believe I never thought of CC&M! But I think he's right (trying to remember the rest room location in the 1st pic background) I wasn't at that rink all that much because I was almost always at the CC Douglassville rink. And as many rinks as I've been in my old brain just can't remember what they all look like.

It's been 33 or 34 years since we have been to CC&M or Douglasville, so it's just a wild guess on Kenny's part !!! When Marty stops into the Forum I am sure he will be able to help more !!!

Well, if you were ever at Douglassville during that time, we were definitely in the same building together.

I just noticed your skating definition. Ain't that the truth!! To this day, my housework gets done faster when I put in an organ tape.
