I was digging around in the basement today looking for something else and saw a box up in the rafters that read "Premo Deano's" (SP) so I had to open it up. AND Voila! Enough of the old "tire" molds for the Primo Deano hubs. I know there are some people out there with these hubs, or newly machined ones out there... Should we be back into the tire biz again? Your thoughts....

Well, how do you feel about a two piece wheel, are there really enough of the hubs around to merit the expense. There's a guy in Australia, making metal deanos.
The guy in Australia (Wayne) is making deano wheels, I'd be tickled pink if you made hubs and tires with say an 82 duro as well as the hard ones, but again, your present philosophy on two piece wheels is the question. |

Unless your going to take steps to make the hubs and tires match up what is currently being reproduced to keep fitment issues to a minimum. Id say dont.
Also you may want to keep in mind with making precision spacers for these hubs if you got back into it. I know it seems silly, but its how bearings are meant to be assembled. At one point in time most bearings from my skateboarding days had spacers with them. This is ass backwards. The person making the wheels should provide a spacer to fit THEIR bearing seat width. Mainly when talking about any wheels where there is enough build quality. Such as a nice machined aluminium hub. The other option is to make the bearing seat width .275 thousandths with a tolerance of -.003/+.000 this would allow anyone to take old busted 608 bearings and use their inner races for spacers. Why do this? Because it shows you care about the product and its use, and the customers who will use it should they want to have spacers setup they will have no worries about, "will they work with these wheels?" Bearing bore alignments are also a problem on a LOT of wheels. Too often bearings do not sit parallel to each other. This contributes to better rolling wheels when the alignment is perfect. If its made with precision, you have my attention. Otherwise, like others have said. Im buying scotts.

Well first up my name sure isn't Wayne.
Yes I make tires to fit Primo Deano hubs and I live in Australia. Paco "from Spain" makes a very nice Alloy version of the hub and if I am not mistaken the hubs are actually made in Germany. That might of changed since last time I spoke with Paco about them. A limited run of tires might be nice for the collectors. I would even look at buying a set for my own collection.

Id rather have some clarity in my feedback than some of the silly short posts, Which then become multiple posts trying to explain what they ment in the first place. OP asked for thoughts, well...

Funny that scotts been making the tire for ages and paco and others are/have made the hub. Like i said not a big market. Those that have the hubs will allready have scotts and most likely ,Pacos customers scots as well. Would be better designing a new tyre/hub combo, one Better than whats available now.

Your joking right.
DERBY.Buying a new product. I have been telling them about good gear for years and that advice falls on deaf ears. All they buy are R3 poisens crazy and hot pants. At the moment the op is talking about tyres. Like i said design a New lightweight wheel OR make a tyre for a wheel that hardly anyone has. Actually dont bother. Rollerbone turbos. Bont FX and assassins Wicked scotts. Enforcers Super enforcers. Hebegebes No REAL need for a NEW wheel.....

I'll throw something totally different out there...
I'd support a two-piece arrangement engineered primarily for outdoor use. 70mm to 80mm diameter tires, without going too wide... maybe 40mm width maximum. I don't consider myself a particularly brutal skater, but I've warped enough of the plastic hubs on outdoor wheels that after a few months of use, some of the bear bore alignments are off, and the wheels roll slightly crooked. Not a lot, but enough that I can spin the wheel and visually see the misalignment. Hard plow stops on a tall and skinny wheel put a lot of force into the plastic hubs. |

YES! We need a next generation, outdoor optimized Deano wheel design that's engineered from the GROUND up.
Well maybe from the inside out, starting with a 55mm hub OD so that 72-80mm OD tires will not add so much to the total weight of the skate. Being able to purchase both different large ODs -AND- different duro 'thane tires to fit a large OD hub, outdoor wheel would have me buying a lot of tire sets per set of hubs. There need to be a lot of closely spaced spokes to have good stiffness. The 49mm Velocity Race hub design with 12 spokes that curve all the way out to the edge of the hub for full width tire support is excellent. I say that 40mm is too wide --- mid 30s gives better roll and speed. No lips needed either - just good corner radius to resist impact chunking. ![]() -Armadillo

I cant see the point in making a 55 mm hub only to make a 70 / 80mm outdoor wheel. For an even smaller market.
Make a 50mm hub and use it for all wheels 62-70-80. Rollerbones. Really dont waste your time. Make a small run limited edition one duro only collector Deanno tire.... Its cool that you still have the molds though.
