Default Wallaby/Altamura "Tribute" skates

I was going to wait until they were finished but I just can't contain my excitement any longer! I've finally managed to aquire a set of Sure Grip Wallaby plates in the correct size and a beautiful pair of Altamura boots
Many, many years ago my step father was one of the owners of Sure Grip Australia. As well as importing and supplying Sure Grip and other roller skating products to most of the country he also produced a range of Sure Grip Australia products, including the cast-in-one Wallaby and Kangaroo skate plates. There is a very good chance that the plates I now posess he cast himself back in the early 80's
He also used to co-own a skate rink in Brisbane back in the 80's called Skateway. As a bizarre coincidence this also happened to be the rink I used to frequent as a wee little artistic skater. This isn't something I found out until about 4 years ago, so it really is a small world! I also had a crush on the Saturday morning skate shop assistant who as it turns out is now my eldest stepbrother...awkward!

Anyway I wanted to build an 'Aussie' skate using Wallabies and Alta's as a tribute to my stepdad Peter, who in the 9 years he has been part of my life has been more of a father to me than my own. I cannot wait until these are built and to see the look on his face when he sees them!

I really, really want to thank Finn 427 and Damian 73 for the boots and plates. Honestly I cannot thank you both enough! And thank you to all of the other Aussies out there that have kept an eye out and sent me pm's and links to various Kangaroo/Wallaby possibilities, that was very kind of you. And thank you to HK47 for agreeing to mount them for me, you are much better at it than I am!

Reproduction fan jets are a good fit IMO, get them in natural and age them in the sun for a while to get that cool hugger yellow from the eighties happening.

Salamanda - I'm sure someone you know has a set of '80s Aussie wheels that you could borrow

Aussie Scott (on here, based in Aus) or Faster Skates (also on here, but based in the US). Both make gorgeous wheels

Default thats a reminder from the old days

I feel very happy about this build. Im from that era also and had wallabys then still have a pair now. They are nice and snappy on the steering.
may I suggest Ice flo wheels for that drifting feeling.if you can find a set of iceflo's that arent coned you will be goin. recently skated a set of those old hustlers they were so much fun.

Default I remember the wallaby plates

My first skates were Gold Cup soccer boots (with the nibs ground off), Wallaby Plates, 608zz bearings and 58 mm red speed wheels, loved them and had them for years, wow the memories.
I reckon you'll love em.
And its the great thing about forums like this I'm so glad I joined. Enjoy.

That's grouse Salamanda, good on the boys for helping you get the kit.
can't wait to see them all mounted up, I'm sure HK will do a killer job.
Those boots are beautiful, very nice set-up.
Get some Scott's on them and they will be sweet to skate.
