Default Old Time Portable Skating Rinks

I KNOW this isn’t a figment of my imagination…but I’ve asked MANY of my peers from the Midwest and NO ONE has a clue what I’m talking about!!

When i was a kid back in the late 50’s early 60’s…whenever we visited my grandparents in Covington, IN in the summers…we’d go down to the local city park on the weekends…when there were bands playing in the gazebo…venders with food…kids running everywhere…etc….

AND…there’d be a “portable” BIG tent covered wood floored skating rink…set up OFF the ground…maybe 3 feet??…I was a kid, so maybe it wasn’t that high off the ground!!…although we had to go up stairs to get into it….

There’d be organ music playing…the sides were open-air…it was one of the BEST summer memories of my childhood!!

Have you heard of anything like this??

I WANT one of those rinks myself…NOW!!….. :-D

The leader of the local San Francisco midnight rollers has a portable rink that he brings to burning man every year. I havent been to burning man myself, but he was telling me all about it one night in SF. Even has a DJ station and full sound setup!

Default Portable Roller Rinks

Portable rinks were set up in many city parks in the summertime in northwest ohio towns in the 40's and 50's. I remember Tiffin Ohio Hedges Boyer Park having a portable rink set up one summer.
