Was at the practice session at my local rink on a Sunday (it’s a session for ‘competent’ skaters which scares away al the beginners so there’s space to try a few new things without worrying about wiping out the hen party celebrating nearby).
I was trying a mapes turn and for some reason got the toe stop bit wrong, not the landing which is usually where I fall over. Missed the toe stop, turned my ankle and collapsed like Bambi resulting in sprains to 3 or my 4 lower limb pivot areas (ankle ligaments and both knee medial ligaments). An impressive array of lower limb injuries from one fall. Luckily fairly minor sprains so should be back skating in a couple of weeks, and a good excuse to ‘work’ from home for a few days. I’ve always thought I could injure something trying new manoeuvres, just didn’t realise it would be multiple things at the same time ![]() Last edited by zebra1922; July 18th, 2019 at 08:08 PM. |

Two weeks on and one knee is back to normal (although 'normal' is not great for this particular knee after 12 previous surgeries!).
Ankle is a little stiff but definitely a lot better. Other knee is problematic, full tear of the medial ligament means a 6-12 week recovery, although I should be able to skate/run in a couple of weeks. Looks like a delay to the new season of refereeing as well from this. Oh well. |

![]() ![]() And had a lypoma removed from my forearm the size of a testicle 8 stitches and no it wasn't a nut .I checked. And have been putting on some weight along the way. Feeling like c r a p. Been skating all along. Not really helping the bone heal ..May have to stop skating and if the bone doesn't fuse .Doc wants to put screws in.Also I'm actually starting to enjoy Rufus and his incessant posting. I'm sick I know.

I have been having rough spots myself. When I started biking, I went from 218, to 208. Then wandered back up to 218. ![]() It kind of sucks that I am still up at 218. It was about 2.5 years ago that I was happily 200, and 18 lbs jumped on me outta nowhere. I felt like crap warmed over twice. While I still hate having the weight on me, my biking make me feel good enough that I am not hating life. When the weight first hit me, I felt terrible. At least now, I am carrying it well. I don't feel THAT bad. But, better to lose it.
