Default New to SkateLog

Hi everybody and thanks Kathie for letting me sign up.

I'm from Melbourne, Australia, 29, and I'm a beginner to inline skating. This is not to say that I've never tried before. The last time I put on a pair of inline skates was ten years ago and even then I was just messing around at the local parking lot with some friends.

I can skate forward, turn, and balance myself reasonably well but when it comes to turning with crossovers, or hockey turns(?), I'm a lost cause. The same goes for stopping, I can use a heel brake just fine and slow myself down with a plow stop(?) but that's about it.

After heaps of reasearch I ended up purchasing a set of Seba FR1 skates this morning.

I've been doing lessons at a local rink(Skaterz in Eltham! Anybody know it?) with hired skates so I can't wait to try these out tomorrow.

I honestly feel like I've found something which I can truly enjoy and love as a hobby. Aside from the fact that my partner has just recently gotten into Roller Derby, and this pretty much attributed to me picking up a set of inline skates, I started skating to have fun and get fit. It's something I hope to continue for years to come and maybe one day I'll get right into slalom and freestyle. Both styles look like something I'd love to try one day, especially slalom.

Anyway, I'm not really sure what else to say other than that I hope to learn a lot from everybody here and that maybe one day I can put in just as much as I take out. Feel free to ask me anything you like. Thanks again!

Thanks, Banzai! Ahh yes.... money.... I have none of it now but it was money well spent nonetheless. I love these skates. I'm not good enough to get the most out of them yet but I'm glad I bought them regardless.
