We have had a couple of competitions in the last few months. I did very well, but, I didn't do so well in my tryout for new partner, but I did get to skate with the best skater in the world in my humble opinion. but I just wasn't good enough, but I did enjoy skating with her. Maybe next year...lol!
Another competition next month. I'm looking forward to it. Best of luck to all! Larry O ![]() |

Nostalgic, since I don't know who you are, I really don't want to say who she is, because I don't want to embarrass her. But if you Skated at Fountain Valley, you would know who she is...lol!!!????
She skated a few years back and won in solo dance and got a 2nd in team. Since, I have never won in anything, I have a while to catch up to her if I ever do? But since I just got to know her for a very short time, I was surprised her pro and her were willing to give me a chance. I was just not up to standards...lol! But the good thing is, her pro said I could skate with her, but I just wasn't good enough to compete at team at her level, which is a higher division than me, at this time. Ancient 1, I went to Nationals this year and saw two girls which I thought were the best in the World....my little world. One got 1st in Solo Dance at the highest level and the other won in Team Dance at the highest level. In my opinion this girl could be as good as either of those two. So that's why I say she's the best in the World for/to me. It would be honor and a pleasure to skate with this girl. Maybe next year???? Very seldom do you find someone of such Caliper that you really wouldn't want to skate with anybody else. I felt if I could ever get good enough we would make a good team and I think that's was why I was given the chance to try out and why her pro said "you are not out of the picture, skate with her and we will see later on...down the road" Rick, you are so right. I have been skating for one and half years, now and I have never skated team dance since I came back and I skated almost 40 years ago. So the 20 minutes I skated with her was the only team dance I have done in last 40 years. I learned so much, and she taught me a lot of things and was willing to work with me. My pro/pros are different than hers. And my pro didn't even know I was trying out? But once I told her (my pro what problems I was having) she said we will start working team at ever lesson from now on. In my first lesson, since the tryout, I learned I needed to bend my knees so I could find some ease when skating side by side with a partner. I was standing too tall and she was bending her knees cutting some fine edges. If you get down and bend your knees skating with a partner you can get rid of this tension I was feeling in my right side when skating with her and I didn't know why. This tryout person said "I had to use my core or my groin/stomach muscles" to stand up tall. I just couldn't get that feeling of standing tall and projecting the body on a nice arc in unison with her. We were not matching in body posture. She was skating tall and I was leaning a little forward. She also helped me in looking in the direction you are traveling. She would say "look right Larry", which I needed that constant reminder. The tryout made me a better person and a better skater. At least I know what I need to work on to become better. We didn't hit our skates together and our heights matched up, which I was really worried about. She agreed. Best Wishes and thanks for listening. Larry O P.S. All teams automatically qualify to go to nationals this year. ![]() |

I don't know a lot of the Fountain Valley skaters of the past and maybe none of the present. I knew Butch Siebert and Steve Natzke, and their partners slightly. Also Chuck Merrell and Cheryl Davis. There were probably a few others that I cannot recall at the moment. I would be surprised if there were any still left of the few that I knew. The skaters that I knew were mostly on the northern side of Los Angeles County. My name, which I have given occasionally, is Charles Voorhies and I did not compete much due to the lack of a partner. Keep at it, we tend to try harder when we are chasing girls.

As it turns out, the news I heard in early fall was fake news. A facebook post reported our shuttered rink was to reopen early this year. Instead, the building has been leased with option to buy, by a freaking furniture store.

Her name is Kim Bonnani and her son recently competed in Water Polo for a pretty well known
![]() She's a great mother and a great skater. She was trying to skate more than one event/solo dance, so Bob was trying to help her out. I'm kind of new and he gave me a shot. It didn't work out, but Bob said I could still skate with her, but I just wasn't good enough to skate in the Sliver Division and compete... So who knows, maybe in the future I will get another try. Her husband is one big dude and a really nice guy. Larry O and best wishes always. |

As I expected the name means nothing to me, completely unfamiliar.
