Hi
I got some old fo-mac wheels off of thrift store skates. The problem is that they have 7mm bearings in them and I have 8mm axels. I cant seem to get them out. There is a spacer in between the bearings that is preventing a bearing puller from grabbing the inner race of the bearing. Also the wheels are so hard the old pry out the bearing on the end of the axel trick doesn't work either. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I seem to remember using a very small pin pinch with a very sharp edge around the flat on the punch end. You should be able to get the edge of the punch between the spacer and inner race and gently tap the front bearing loose. Then the puller can work.. I have not done this in years but I recollect the job was quite tedious and required precise positioning of the punch and your tongue.

I've successfully used a small chisel for this job too (since none of my punches were sharp enough to get a purchase)
Fomacs are surprisingly forgiving of hard impacts ![]()
