Default Some Basic Videos on Artistic Dance Skating

I was surfing the internet and found these four basic videos on Artistic Dance Skating.

The lessons were giving by John Viola.

John Viola has been teaching the finer points of roller skating for 51 years, and was inducted into the USA Roller Sports Competitive Coaches Roller Skating Hall of Fame in 1992.

There are 2,515 registered roller figure skaters in United States, according to USA Roller Sports, an organization based in Lincoln, Neb., that serves as the national governing body for several sports on wheels, including inline speed skating, inline hockey, and roller figure skating. By contrast, there are more than 184,000 registered ice skaters in the United States

This looks like a coaches/judges seminar. Great resource. This would make a fantastic sticky post where we could add videos.

Derrick, I just thought these videos were interesting. Anybody who has skated for while in Artistic dance can probably relate. You really miss a lot because they cut out the actual time people were practicing on the floor and the Instructor was evaluating their skating. That would have been fun to see the students actually performing the stroking and skating/performing Mohawk turns.

I can’t stress how important it would be to get into one these basic artistic skating classes at your skating rink. Everything would start to come together and you would soon understand what these videos are pointing to. Pretty basic stuff, but really important to someone who is just learning to Artistic Dance Skating.

Terminology and skating terms are the same in ice or roller skating. So once you start to learn these terms and skating basics, it should be the same no matter where you go in the world or from whatever book you are reading about the Basic turns and stroking in skating.

Sincerely,

Larry Otani and you are welcome….LOL!
