Oh my aching big toe! I may have gained a few pounds...ugh. Anyway. Do your feet get bigger when you gain weight? Can anyone relate here?
I took 2 days off from skating, but it didn't help. I can only skate for 3 hours comfortably now, then my toes are screaming. I have Riedells. Should I get another pair of skates for my heavier weight? I hear Edea Classicas are SUPER comfortable. I currently only have one pair of roller skates. What would you do? |

I leave my first two (bottom) eyelets empty, then a knot in the laces after the next two or three eyelets so they can be loose, then snug them up to lock my heel in but let blood flow freely for my toes, I also leave the top two empty on my obermeyer b52's
I want my ankles free. I use orthotics underfoot, the're thin, and surround the toes and heel, snugging them down so they don't rub., yet leave good blood flow. I also use foot lotion freely, the feet love it, the leather loves it, and will conform to your big toe. The lotion removes friction, heat, and lets the leather conform. |

Toe nail may need clipped back farther, or sanded down in height if your toes grow thicker nails. Possibly a thinner sock. Remember to tamp your heel all the way back in the skate when you lace up.
Use of over under lacing could help. https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/overunderlacing.htm Or many other lacing patterns. Are yours lace to toe? (What model boot?) What cushions are in your skates?

Thanks! It worked!
I clipped the toenail real low. Left the bottom eyelets less tight. Wore thinner socks. I smeared vaseline on my big toe and.....my toes aren't screaming! I really wasn't expecting this to work. I'm not sure I could fit orthotics into the skate, it's just to tight. What type do you use?? My skates are Riedell 172 (they don't lace to the toe). |

Put black superfeet pads in my newest bicycling shoes, very thin, low volume, excellent heel hold, good arch, I prefer custom heated orthotics and usually use a set I have, but the cycling shoes are very tight and I don't want to cut a custom set, the black superfeet are ok.
Orthotics, thin custom orthotics take up less space than anything but ultra thin oem footbeds which are just about useless. I have ultra thin low cut silk and smartwool socks, I prefer the smartwool, they don't bunch up in my toes cutting off blood circulation. |
