Are there any specific abdominal/core exercises that are more beneficial to skaters than others? What works for you?

Anything that works the core will help. Planks are very good. Supermans, which work the low back, are also very good.

BJJ "shrimping" really anything in BJJ is pretty core intense. Fantastic stuff.
Tae Kwon Do kicking drills, front kicks, side kicks , back pivot kicks, crescent kicks- inside and outside variants, both at speed with power , and super slow with great form and control, but always focusing on precision of where you want that kick to land. Planking is good, but a waste of time really IMO. Always try to use a muscle group that is not just muscle strain, but one that builds coordination in your bodys ranges of motion. Example? Lets say your leg pressing 2 to 2.25 times your own weight for exercise. Your wasting you time when you could be doing pistol squats, building leg stability and the same leg strength as well as balance.

If you have a facebook account, check out the basic skating or US speedskating pages. They often have great tips.
I like planks of different varieties. Try doing a planking challenge, where you do a little longer each day. It can be just adding one second per day, but it helps. You can also cheat your abs by doing things like pull-ups, that engage your core more than you think. Just a handful of pull-ups usually warms my core, especially the obliques. I also like bicycle kicks, where you lie on the floor and alternate kicking out while having your hand at the back of your neck and alternating touching the opposite elbow to your knee.

You can always squat and dead lift heavy, also. Don't do leg presses. Done properly, both are great for core stability work.
