I just moved to greater Detroit and one of the parks near me has a couple of outdoor rinks. This is something we would never have in Australia and it has given me a chance to get out for a skate at least once a week. It would be good to catch up with anyone who want to play some hockey in the park before winter sets in.
My wife was goalie for one of my teams back in Oz and she decided to put on her goalie gear last weekend. It was a lot of fun. We made a little video about it... https://youtu.be/x9rKV59FVzo Now I just have to go find myself a regular league game. CG

You have some real roller hockey skills. Since Detroit is an ice hockey city, you should have no trouble finding a group to compete in roller hockey. But don't be surprised if they play your wife and you bench warm.
Sharing your passion for a demanding game like that is rare. Don't let her go! She's more than one in a million. Gotta be at least one in a billion. Kudos to the two of you and welcome to the U.S.A. Keep rollin ![]()

I don't think she wants to go back to league hockey but time will tell. If I get back on the rink I guess she might get the urge to suit up again.
As for me, I am just looking for a beer league or veterans league. I know there is a rink on my way home from work that has spots on teams but I just have to pluck up the courage and put myself put there.

Ditto what he said. Both of you show some great skills and are so lucky to share interest in the sport. I'm envious.
BTW, that is an interesting geometric surface in the rink. Not sure what it is made of or what its like to skate on, but it looks like rainwater would drain through it. All of the outdoor rinks here are coated concrete. So yeah, very cool to see that. |
