Hi Doc. I was thinking of getting a set of Laser Elite Plates, but was wondering if you could tell me the following.
1/ In all the photos I have seen (I haven't ever seen a set in the flesh) the plates looks really "tall", ie the boot looks like it will be higher off the ground Versus a "regular plate. Is this the case, or is it just the way the photos look. 2/ Are the new Lasers, ie since Suregrip took over, as good as the old? If not, are they still a good plate? 3/ I am looking for a wheelbase of around 170mm. I saw in one of your other posts that a 10 is 176mm, what would a 170mm be?. Many thanks.

Not to take over Docs place ,but I skate a new sure grip laser plate and hammer it ..derby ref and session skate HARD on my lasers (they were all I wanted as a kid ) and have not had a problem besides bending kingpins from kickin the wall .
A freakin good plate IMO.

There was a period after Sure Grip took over the trucks were not as good as before... That is fixed...
The rest of the plate is about the same as before.... As far as good.. That is relative... It was a darn fine spped plate back in the day but it is possible to still break trucks... They are taller... see the thread about plate height over on the quad forum... Size 9.3 is about 169mm Since Lasers are sized in inches, they don't hit the metric spacing very well... |

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
So what is the increment for each 'point'? If 9.3 is 169mm, what would 9.4 be for example?

Doc,
I was thinking about a forward mount Laser Elite 9.3 on a 11.5 Riedell X boot (don't have the right boot yet). Is that do-able and skate-able for mixed session skating, casual round n round to medium to high speed) or will that be a lot of work over a couple hours of skating. I've not skated a 6.75 yet, nor a more forward mount so I'm curious. I think scubask8tr has a 9.1 on an 11, so is this do-able? Normally I'm on a 10.0 laser and can skate it for hours on end.
