Doc,
a while back i saw a post that showed cutaways of aluminum hubbed wheels. Was wondering which set of wheels had the widest hub, most support of the urethane? |

I'll have to dig them out and measure. Not a whole lot of difference I think.

I'm wondering about having wider hubs and less lip hanging out unsupported. If the urethane is not supported, how can it really much grip? It would not be forced to do work if it has very little pressure on it form not being supported. I know that the lips help if you are not putting your feet down flat, the pressure is at an angle(since the hub is at an angle it actually does support) and the lip works to settle the wheel as it comes down by gripping at an angle. Then as the wheel contacts and fully contacts the floor the lip really becomes inactive. My theory at least.

My action is pretty much medium, but with the long cushions I use, ramp up is minimized. Adjustments are very seldom done now even when changing rinks. I;m thinking of a wheel with very short lip, but smooth radius, kind of a tapered edge maybe 2mm or so wide only. May have to see if Scott or Hebegb would build my custom set. No pigment costs more so, I'm going to wait a little longer. My funds are going elsewhere for now.

My hubs are 38mm wide and the tyre is 41mm wide.

That, is a lot of support! Not ready yet, business is taking all my cash now. Last week business needed 3 drill presses and 2 wood routers. Shopping for a planer now. I like your wheel sizes so I will be in touch when the time comes.

I was skating at the rink last Sunday and one of my skate buddies showed me his new 80.00 set of wheels. They had silver aluminum hubs and purple low profile wheels that were sticking out past the hub. They were jagged and chipped around the very thin protruding edges.

Does anyone make a hub which protrudes past the tyre? Or have these wheels been "modified"?
