You can buy me a new pair for Christmas if you want, Mark.
Let's see...
So, can I expect to see them under my tree?

Let's see. I killed my C4s after 18 months, and I had to buy 2 pairs to get the right fit, so the final cost (even after selling off mis-matched pair) was more that the cost of one of the Simmons. After 9 months I'm about to kill my Challenges, so in this case the Simmons is more.

Chuck. you mean like these: ![]() My boots aren't custom, but the left is a size 10 and the right 10.5 with a 10 degree (no extra charge). I didn't use the MPC wheels for the picture. Matter yellows and Bones Ceramics. They fly. ![]()

nah baby, you fly.
The skates are just a tool, albeit a finely tuned precision instrument of speed and glory tapping into our inner soul, nonetheless, still just a tool. Skates come and go, we are the constant. If we truly are our own tribe, the skater's tribe, one might suggest that our totem poles would be made of each of the skates we've owned over time. Each with it's own history of travel. Each with it's own birth, life and death leading to the next skate as it is reincarnated to embrace the evolving skater. |

And just like MachVs my pairs are semi custom...Size 10 left, size 9.5 right 10degree cant. The indoor set did have a lower cuff than the outdoor, but when I said just above the carbon, I really did mean just above the carbon.

yeah, that's exactly what I meant. You so totally get me, mV, it's like you're reading my mind.
did you take a boxcutter to your brand new boot? or was this an old one? If it was the new one, did it ever cross your mind to send it to Simmons and ask them to do it? I've heard they're very flexible about things like that. Another option is (would have been) not tying the upper eyelets. Can we see a pic of it in it's newly hacked state? |

I'm tying them to the second brass eyelet. What happens is that the edge of the cuff bites into my achilles tendon on my right skate (this also happens on the Challenges). It does not happen outdoors.

Oh, I believed you alright. Sorry you weren't happy with your brand new skate, that's all. What are your plans for the liner? Is is likely to fray or seperate?

The liner is contact cemented in, as far as I can tell. I was thinking of contact cementing black bias tape around to top. But the edge of the boot is quite a solid sandwich that is not going anywhere.

I think I need to get out of the old (165mm spacing) and into the new (195mm spacing).
I really can't justify paying $550 for new boots, $300 for new frames, and at least $200 for new bearings and wheels though, since skating is a hobby now, and not a sport, like it used to be. I think I'll stay with my 165mm spaced Simmons, and MAYBE get an evenly (or as evenly as can be) spaced Liberty 4x100mm frame. Has anyone dabbled with a 4x110mm or a 3x110mm/1x100mm for a 165mm mount? Or is it not possible?
