First time at the skate park

I honestly had no ambition to ramp skate but my son wanted to, so I went with him and of course I brought my skates. Insanely pleased with how it went.

Wow, great for a first time! Are you a good "flat" skater ?

I'm about the same age and my first time on a park was last week. The first three tries were the "let's-go-horizontally-high-over-the-floor-and-then-fall-heavily-to-see-what-happens" style...

I think I'm a good forward skater, as in I get fairly comfortable with tricky(ish) forward skating moves quite quickly, though anything backwards/sideways/turns/spins takes serious work and improvements come slowly. I watched a lot of skatepark tutorials before going and seriously recommend the Planet Rollerskate channel on youtube.

Way to go! There is a 1st time for everything and not all have the nerve to to attempt quad vert.

Thanks guys. I've been going once or twice a week now and I genuinely love it. I can drop in from the coping on highest ramp, use the momentum to get me up the higher ramps on the other side. I have tonight managed to get the tiniest bit of air a couple of times and keep skating down the next ramp and my carving has gotten higher. I'm still absolutely nowhere near managing to pump effectively, my timing is so bad that more often than not I kill my momentum instead of generating it. I'll get it eventually though.

Even better we've put together a group of skaters to do skatepark meet-ups together. And we've made a facebook page to encourage others to join us.
