"Derby gives women a place where they belong, especially women who don't fit in anywhere else. I have always been a take-charge kind of woman and usually felt like a fish out of water in traditional woman's groups, but I have always felt accepted for myself among derby women" —Batterin’ Gram, 56, Minnesota Roller Girls

I came up with a game... you take a drink every time someone says "woman." Ready...... go!

Just 'woman' or 'women' as well? Coz if it's the latter I'm not sure I'm up for the hangover!

Is it me, or are all those women young looking for their ages? Does that mean derby keeps you young?

I sure hope so. We are trying to get a mens league started and hopefully will be getting things off the ground next season. I will be 50 by then and just starting out.

Default It Keeps them Limber/Youngerish

Fun reading the replies,

When girls are young they are quite flexible and strong. They can do cartwheels and other interesting stuff a bit younger than the guys. Yet as time moves on past maybe 12 they lose some of that stuff to build some other stuff they also enjoy. BTW as a guy I glad they do.

SO, My thought is that Derby brings them back around again to be a lot more physically adaptable, which mean younger in physique.

The same thing happens to guys who go out to work at desk or sedentary jobs. Guys also lose their physical adaptability.

One of my buddy gals in one of those photos who is quite long legged, and one of the oldest of this grouping, touches her toes at a fast rate whenever she practices derby. She is doing high speed jumping jacks on skates and is slightly older than Colin from Australia.

And she, like cojaco61, is always more than willing to share her expertise, diet, you name it with other derby people

Yours in Skating, MA/NY Skating Dave

Edit-01 Had to add the similiarity

I hope it gets going for you while you're 50!

I played my first bout the month before that birthday and wow, 50 was the most amazing and surprising year of my life so far. And I've had some good ones before too

My goal is to still be playing when I'm 60, and beyond if they haven't carried me off the track by then. 2019 or bust!
