After 20 years, I have put small flats on one of my Labeda wheels on my speed skates. There does not seem to be anyone with a wheel grinder to remove the flat because replacement parts are no longer being made for the wheel grinders. So it looks like I will have to buy a new set of wheels. I am trying to figure out how hard of a wheel I want to get. Perhaps, I should buy several sets of the cheapest wheels I can find to determine which works best for me.

Head over to the Quad forum and ask the same question you will get the right advice. Super enforcers are the best, my 2 cents. |

If you don't want to wait for Aussie Scotts, I like the Rollerbones Turbo. I also have Zombies, and they are OK too.
Another option is to contact Danny Beaver - he may be able to fix your flat spot. Good luck. |

I would get Aussie Scotts if I knew for sure that I enjoy using my speed skates. For now, I am not there yet. I still prefer the handling of my Harlick with Atlas plate over my Rydell 575 with DA Laser Hardnose plate. Maybe I can find some with a lathe to remove the flat from my wheels. This would allow me to continue using the speed skates without spending money on new wheels until I am ready for the Aussie Scotts.

Lots of people can lathe down wheels as well. Anyone with a lathe just about. As for scotts, you wont lose your ass buying a set, resale on them is top notch.

Not that you see many sets of Corey wheels for sale. I'll never sell my Super Enforcers. They're THAT GOOD!

This is a BAD idea, well, unless you're going to simply throw the wheels away anyway.

You just cup a part of sand paper in the form of a C in your hand, cup it around the wheel lightly, which forms to the roundness of the wheel, and ignores the flat spot. Pull the trigger on the drill. All parts of the C you make should lightly contact the wheel. I assure you its not a big deal, but if your paranoid, have them lathed. Will they be perfectly uniform lip to inside edge? Unlikely. Will the flat spot be gone and the wheels be perfectly fine for skating on? Yes. I got a flat spotted wheel, ill do it by hand and make a video.

I bumped into a friend on Wednesday who put me in touch with someone who has a lathe and experience using it. This should be the least costly path for me to continue using the speed skate and see whether I enjoy skating on them to justify spending money on better wheels.

I now have a new set of Labeda Snappers to use while my old set of Labeda Turbo Sprinters get repaired.
