I have to ask how was the transition from the Semi's to the Z.

I went from a LONG RUN in rec skates to the Semi's in about a month and it went pretty well. The last few weeks I haven't been able to practice much but, I'm able to put all my power down in them now.
Well, I went from Jets to Zs so my opinion might not have any merit... but here goes... The Zs to me are definitely stiffer which I appreciate since I mostly do indoor AND they seem lighter although I haven't put them on a scale. One thing for sure, the tongue on the Z is exponentially better than the jet and I'm assuming the semi.

Thanks dan,
I started another thread asking the differences between all of the Bont boots. And yes I believe the Semi and the Jet have the same tongue.

Skated on my Bont Z's for the first time today. Loved them. I've been skating on K2 Radical 100's and before that some rec skates, so these skates are a totally new experience for me.

Thanks for the photo's M2KK, I wonder why Bont didn't re-enforce the eyelets on the Z's? Aren't the Z's supposedto be the nicer boot? I wouldn't think it could be weight savings; maybe cost savings! Just curious!

The top 4 eyelets are metal/reinforced... the lower ones don't see as much force so I see that as a smart design compromise.

Does the non-metal eyelet grab the laces better than metal? Might that be the reason?

Just a guess...

Compromise? It seems from the bont website pictures to be the only inline boot they compromised from the cheetah to the vaypor.... I guess only Alex would be able to tell us why they choose to compromise their mid range boot...

I think the reason might be that the Z is the only boot that 100% of boots will be made out of leather. The Vaypor might be leather or not, the other boots are not leather for sure. So it might be that with the plastic cover material you have to reinforce the eyelets, but with leather you really don't have to. And I guess they are not going to change the design of the Vaypor depending on what it is made out of.

I'm just guessing here, but this possibility just popped into my mind.

We need Alex here to comment on this.

I possibly agree, maybe my word usage was slightly off... how about replacing 'compromise' with 'consideration'...

Usually, we put the big eyelets for the top few holes that need the extra support, then the smaller ones, then none at the bottom because they are not needed. Or, just big ones at the top and none at the bottom. Having big ones all the way down doesn't look that nice IMO. We have 4 layers of material supporting the eyelets, two of them being leather. We've seen two Z boot have their eyelets pull through, the boot was replaced (or is in the process of being replaced) and we have increased the eyelets further down. I am not sure why it has happened because nothing has changed in this area of the boot from all our other boots.
