Default Maybe they are SUPPOSED to be poor

60 years ago, Venezuela was 2 times richer than China.
4 times richer than Japan.
Was the 4th largest economy.
It's currency was 2nd only to the dollar.
Had an excellent health care system.
In 10 years in was destroyed by socialism.
The same socialism the Democrats want.

The question in my head is, why? It seems that every time someone looks at the trodden down poor and says, let's make their lives better, all hell breaks loose. (Hugo Chavez started the ball rolling, seemingly with good intentions, but then it all went to hell) Is this just some law of the jungle theme in this world that HAS to play out. The low must pick themselves up, not be lifted up. And every time we try and fuss with the machinery we get kicked in the crotch. Maybe we should just say F the poor. The poor will then hear this and say, ok, we gotta work our way up. It is only when we face great challenge that we exert great effort.

Easy mark for the greedy!

The poor need a hand up more than a hand out. I don't know why we can't have 2 years of community college free for everyone who wants to go and is up for it.

I don't have a problem with some people having some college, but they need to show initiative. Not be passed through a school so that they can get a pass through college too. Not wasting the cash on people there for a free ride.

Some people naturally rise to their level of incompetance.

That is what I am asking. WHY? An aggressive Cheetah is not very hungry, but sees an injured prey animal. So it kills it and eats, though not very hungry. Elsewhere on the savanah, a more passive Cheetah passes on an easy kill, thinking I will eat day after tomorrow. Then for the next several days, there is no prey. The Cheetah weakens, and has no energy to run from or fight off some hyenas. The Cheetah is eaten.

Hugo Chavez wanted to do MORE for his people. He promised them great things. Did he not mean it? Was it all just a ruse? He fancies himself a Robin Hood. Robbing from the rich, GIVING to the poor. What a Hero. And we all know how it ends.

The bible says ye will have the poor with you always. Seeing as the Bible is touted as knowing how all things are, have been and will be, suppose they are right. Is it because some cosmic force is making it so, are we so bent that ending poverty is beyond us, or did someone just look through all of history and say, yeah, just checked, poverty never goes away. Is this true for some random non-reason reason?

Is poverty a societal failing, or a personal failure? I mean, we do see plenty of rich kids killing themselves with drugs or alcohol. That would seem to be a personal failing. Or is rich kids killing themselves a societal problem.

Socialists. Worried about outcomes. Conservatives. More concerned with opportunity. It is like college. Send underprivileged kids to college. Can't find a 6 figure job with that advanced basket weaving degree? Well, we need to FORCE employers to hire more basket weavers.

Survival of the fittest. Slow predators die. Slow prey gets eaten. Societies seem to run off the rails when they stray too far from this.

Yeah, they would have to keep the grades up, or that's it, Uncle Sam is done helping them. I had 2 years of college paid for by JTPA when my job went away about 30 years ago. The government has gotten a lot more money out of me in taxes as a result. I guess there is always the GI Bill.

That sounds like a specific situation. Like some industry died, or was killed off by some Gov. change, and they did the courtesy of making job training in some other industry available. Or the county or state, paying good attention to changes in employment looked after their own and trained folks. And before that one industry died, there were poor, and after the new job training was done, there were poor.

I remember a lot of the people I trained while at Carnation. Boy, did some losers roll through. Bad attitude, chip on their shoulder. I was no better than them. But I valued my job, worked hard, listened when talked to, and just generally got along. But for the losers, nothing was good enough. Everyone was beneath them. Work hard? Are you crazy? These are some of the people who end up poor. F 'em.
