My new custom boots just arrived. I explicitly requested a lace loop to guard against tongue slide. My boots don't have them.
Every boot I have owned that did not have lace loops had tongue slide problems and had to be retrofitted. Boots that came with a lace loop or had one retrofitted do not have this problem. Why don't all boots have loops? NIH? |

This is a common problem. Most resolve it by heating the tongue and getting it to shape to your foot better.
I have a set of Pinnacle customs on order and explicitly asked him to add the tongue stay.

Good call on adding the loops to your Pinnacles. My current boots are Pinnacles. Initially, I had lots of problems with tongue slide. After numerous fruitless attempts to control the problem with heat molding, I took my boots to a local leather repair shop and had them add loops to the tongues. I haven't had a problem since.

why not just make a pair of parallel slits for the laces to go thru???
all of my Bonts have velcro (standard feature) on tongue/upper that controls this issue for me.

I have the velcro on my Bont quads and I hate it. It interferes with lacing and unlacing. I prefer slots or the extra piece to run the laces through.

Well, not really. I've always known it is there and how it affects me, but for me it does the job without any penalties. what are your 'penalties'?

It gets in the way of loosening and tightening the laces, because the lace stick to the velcro as it passes it.

I took them to a local shoe repair repair place and had them add loops. The work is a bit ghetto but it is functional. No tongue slide problems. Other problems, yes but nothing related to tongue slide.
