Wollongong (WIRD) placed third in Division Two at the Australian national tournie, The Great Southern Slam. So they are below the 21 teams in Division One--however B teams were not allowed to compete, and ours has beaten them on a few occasions (our A team placed third at the Slam).
I'd put them at mid-level, as they have been around for quite some time. Convict City played in division one at our national tournament, but were knocked out early. We haven't played them, and they're from Tasmania, so they don't come to the mainland often... As for the other video, that was a potluck team. I haven't seen the game myself but am sure there were some very skilled skaters playing. Neither bouts would be representative of top-level Australian derby though...for that, you'd have to check out Victorian Roller Derby League and Sun State Roller Girls (SSRG), who are first and second in Australia, respectively. Both have played sanctioned WFTDA games in the US and done very impressively--VRDL you may remember from Champs this year. |
