Default Seeking quads - speed skates

Howdy all,

New here and hoping this is the right forum. Back in the day I raced over here in New Zealand on quads. In those heady days it was Boens and Chesters, and Boens and Bonts. Universal wheels etc.

I was a kiwi champ, and a Pacific Juniors rep.

Now, all these years on, and all the old guard are fixing to have a quad nationals next Easter. Banked track no less.

So I am hoping that somewhere on here I can start to source some bits and pieces to make a set of speed skates up. Leads in the right direction would also be amazing!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

Well, it all comes down to money and how much you want to spend. What's your budget and time frame? Are you planning a full nostalgia build, or something modern and pre-built so that you can just get back in the game?

Oh good god no, but let's just say there was a familial falling out, and that door is very much closed.

As to budget or build sort.... would love to get a bit nostalgic, but I think that at this stage, my pokings aobut have led me to Lazer X plates, and probably Bont boots. The Lazer plates will do til I source some Boen Specials.

I figure the leather will be a little too crusty on the older boots if I managed to get them back anyway (a lot of sideways tracking down would be needed.)

:-)

I was a 168 Boen, and wear 43 euro shoes, (road and MTB) so figure I'll still be about that with the Bonts.

With regards the Lasers, I figure they're a big cheap (60USD) but they'd be a "get by" plate?

Don't you mean 162 or 170 special.
Boen speeds came as a 168 size 7....

Well if you want to shorten the process, there's a set of skates on Gumtree for $250. Bont boots size 10 (EU 44) with Avenger DA45 plates and a set of 97A Rollerbones (pretty hard) plus some Road Hawgs (outdoor wheels). Not a pure 'speed' set, but get you up and running while you track down all you need for a pure nostalgia build.

Still there. Having one set of skates with both indoor and outdoor wheels is good way to get back in the groove

Someone in WA just sold some skates on eBay with crap boots and plates, but with some Fanjets in reasonable condition for $65. A clean and re-surface and they'll be a ton of fun

Well, if you're after new speed wheels in the same mold (hahaha) as Fanjets, try Corey Skates.
