Riedell Discontinuing Many Models

Just saw this post from Fred Benjamin on Skate Addiction. Anyone else heard this?

Effective minutes prior to this post, Riedell has discontinued these following boots.

2010 Imperial
Model 1065
Model 965
Model 811
Model 695
Model 195
Model 130
Model 126
Model 125
Model 122

According to the email, these will still be available in the full custom program.

Kind of inevitable??? I always saw the Riedell boot lineup like Detroit cars back in the day. Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Cadillac. In the model lineups, there was a lot of crossover in models. But in peoples' minds, a Pontiac version of a Chevy was worlds different, and a Buick guy would never consider an Oldsmobile.

So, back in the heydays of skating, a lot of choice probably made a difference. People wanted more choice. People wanted to not be the same as everyone else.

I always found the Riedell selection of boots off putting. Dizzying and annoying. Too much freaking choice. And then many boots were built on different lasts, and folks were supposed to remember which was which.

I got such a headache I bought a Bont instead.

So, the 595 is still a "production" boot. And the worst boot ever, the 265. Go figure.

It looks like others are still made though, still a lot of options.

How many of those that are cancelled have I bought in the past 20 years? None.

Even Ford has decided to stop making cars (except for 1-2 models), and concentrate on what everyone is buying, trucks.

Hmm...
I've only been skating for 4.5 years. All of my indoor skates have been
Riedell's. Started out with a used pair of 122s. Bought a pair of 195s from a
guy who just walked up to me at skate session and asked if I wanted to buy
them. I tried them out and as configured with some Radar Speedray wheels on
them, I could tell I was gonna kill myself if I kept them they were so damn
fast! So I sold 'em on eBay and bought some new 495s I just love. I prefer to
have the ankle covered because I attempt to do all kinds of jam skating moves
as well as the fast skating and I just feel more "supported" that way.

So, I'm surprised they're not going to make the 195s anymore. As for the lower
end stuff, I just don't think they can afford to compete there these days. Isn't
the 811 an imported boot already anyways?
