Default Chicago 1940s Detachable Skates found

I was looking for a good old boot to make a pair of outdoor quads to use with my wife and daughters, and bought this kit a few days ago. The boots looked like pretty good Hyde's. When I got the case, it had what I at first thought were broken plates (which was fine, I was going to put another plate on). Then I saw they were made to be detachable, and researched this very cool old system. Imagine arriving at a 1940s traveling roller rink, wearing these shoes, putting on the plates, and skating!

The boots and cushions are in excellent condition. I may even use the wooden wheels. The front grip wings are too narrow to fit on the sole well, you can see the guy just let them go into a cut halfway up the sole edge. I may try to get them on right, but don't want to break them.

Default Great find

Nice set up. That locking heel to plate was a way before its time. And a French Company is bringing it it back. I was watching a old TV Show called the Fugitive where they had a episode at a skating rink and a pair of these were used by David Janssen as a skate guard. Have fun with them

Thanks. It turns out they are slightly too small for me. The seller didn't see the size inside, but I do, they're 8 1/2. I'd hoped 9, and I can fit my foot in there, but it's too tight. They'll be for sale if my wife can't fit them.

There are a kazillion of those out there, but the ones you have are in above average condition. The wheels are neat. Don't see a lot of Hamaco in the US.

Thanks, I'm glad I live in the dry southwest with no basements. Much of what I find is in excellent condition, compared to when I lived in NC.

I found some of these a while back. You want to buy mine as a back up set?

Thanks, but I'm selling these. I stuffed my feet into them, and skated in the driveway. They are just way too tight for me, and I need to concentrate on newer technology.

If Doc doesn't want me to use the old 1930s ad in my auction, I'm happy to remove it. I'd found it somewhere else in Google Books, but a smaller version.

You are fine. I claim no copyright to anything I post.

So, these appear to be on the way to my neck of the woods?? (Pittsburgh area.) Saw our Thursday nite DJ post some pix that look awfully like these sk8s.

Yes, a really nice guy in PA wanted them, and they're going to his good home.
