Boy, life sure re-shuffled the deck on this guy.

From high powered doctor, to barely seeing and dyslexia.

Well, now he skates all day. Not a bad trade off.

Wow, San Gabriel, thanks for posting!
I became aware of Slomo about two months when that film played at a film festival and was written up in the local paper. I was going to link his website and the clips that were on youtube at the time. (To balance out one I did with a motorized-pushwheel inline skate clip).
I actually didn't do it because I thought no one would get it.
But when you see the full thing, it's really different - I think it makes it more understandable to people (I hadn't seen the whole film until now).

What's funny, is when you look at some of the normal-speed clips on his website, and on the full documentary, you really get an appreciation for how at times he really does do everything in slow motion, the positioning of his arms and legs, the motion. Everything would have to be in perfect coordination and balance, like T'ai Chi I think.
So much of the zone thing is concentration.

I hit something like that ONCE, for about thirty seconds, when I was iceskating for about the fourth time. Just going in circles, went up on the edges, no sound, no friction, just gliding, it really was almost like going into another zone - hasn't really happened that way again since. I keep hoping.....

But....I do think everyone who skates, in whatever discipline, gets some of their own version of the zone.
Thanks again for posting.

Interesting theory about 'the zone' with the inner ear, lateral motion, and gravity.

Very few of us ever reach the point in life where we are even searching for how to correct things in our life. This guy not only reached that point he went beyond it and found a way to not only do what he enjoys doing UT also to reach out to other people in the process and help them. On top of all that he knows he was an as shoe before and he doesn't wanna get back to that. Very few of us ever get that far.

Awesome story!

I loved this. Thanks for posting.

I'm wondering what kind of skates Slomo uses. I'm guessing he goes through a bunch of wheels.

His theory, inspired by the 93 year old guy, to just do whatever you want to only works at a certain stage of life.

K2 Radical 100s, looks like the 2012 or 2013 model from what I could catch in the video based on the cuff color and frame. Wheels were Atom One X-Flex as far as I could tell from the color of the hubs, probably 85a since they were green hubs. Wheel wear looked pretty good in the first shot, actually. He skates in a nice spot so wheel wear may not be too bad.

After further review: Nope, I was wrong, K2 Radical Pros, so he is on the K2 HiLo 2x110 2x100. Still on Atom wheels, some X-Flex some Reflex core. Can't tell the hardness by the hub color because they constantly change that. Wish I could skate around all day, though. Guess I have to get rich then have an epiphany.

Thanks. I have some much older Radical 100s...I actually skated in them last night. (Looks like they have improved the skate recently.) I didn't try to do the one leg thing though.

Great Video. I'm sure he has plenty from his medical days, and selling everything off, but if he ever needed a new set of wheels, I'd pick them up for him!

My only hope is a) i get to that age, and b) i'm as happy and content with life at that age as he is

This was great to see. I think all of us can use or deserve a "Slomo" kinda day, go out, get in the zone, detached from the workday on rollers.... even if we can't ditch our day job just yet....ha, ha.

WOW! Just got back from San Diego's Silver Strand inline race event, and you'll never guess who I encountered skating in Mission bay! Yep, the man, himself - what a treat it was to meet such an inspiration to skaters everywhere!! Slomo's taken on quite a celebrity status. It was a pure please to roll upon him as we headed out for our skate along mission bay.

On the Beach with Slomo!

Roll on Slomo!

Default don't become an azzhole

I'm glad he's in the "zone" cuz so many others that need a cat-scan aren't.
I see his website is down.
He & his mentor are probably right though, "do what you want" and don't become an "azzhole".
The first can be tough...the later is easy....unless u sk8
