Default 2012 NHL Playoffs

Here we go again! A bit of a late start to the threadgiven we are already a few games into the first round of conference finals which are all looking interesting.

The one match up that has me fascinated is the Pens vs Flyers. It never actually clicked with me that the rivalry between these two teams stems from them being in the same state (I do live a long way from the USA so I don't think about these intrastate rivalries). But what is really fascinating is that given the strength of the team without Crosby for most of the season and the fact that they now have him back and strong they were Stanley Cup favorites heading into the playoffs and they are now down 3-0 to the Flyers in the first round.

The other one that I like is the Kings vs Canucks. The west's 8th seed Kings have 1st seed Canucks on the ropes with the Kings leading the series 3-0. I don't know what the odds/favorites were leading into the playoffs, but surely a Canucks vs. Pens or Rangers was in order for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

If the Flyers/Pens and Kings/Canucks 1st rounds continue on this path, that either opens things up for the other teams that make it through to the next round and beyond.

Of course the match up that I am watching most intently is Red Wings vs. Predators. I am a Red Wings fan and that is looking like it will be a hard fought 6 or 7 game series. Predators are up 2-1 in the series and every game has been decided by one goal.

So who are you going for? How do you see this round and future rounds shaping up? Who are your picks to make it through the rounds, to the Stanley Cup Playoffs or even for the cup?

1st round of Conference finals done....Red Wings out. I am done now.

No, seriously...watched a few of the Flyers vs. Pens games from the first round and they wre great. The cross state rivalry and each team having to head into a hostile building to play hockey. I have watched up to game 3 in that series so far.

Kings evicting the Canucks form the playoffs race was a surprise. Jonathan Quick is serving them well in goals.

So we now have for the 2nd round 'Conference Semis':

West:
LA Kings v St. Louis Blues
Nashville Predators v Phoenix Coyotes

East:
New York Rangers v Washington Capitals
New Jersey Devils v Philadelphia Flyers

My picks this round are Blues, Preds, Rangers and Flyers. What are yours?

I would like to see the Flyers go all the way here now that the Wings are out. Never really watched much of their hockey but I really like their game and the characters on the team. All very good players and none of them seem to be big headed, rockstar wannabes like some in the league (*cough* Ovetchkin *cough*).

So, we are into conference finals and we have left...

West: LA Kings vs Phoenix Coyotes
East: New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers

Who'd a thunk it....the Western conference finals feature the LA Kings and the Phoenix Coyotes. Not only that, the Kings have moved through the rounds 4 games to 1 over the Canucks (yay) and 4 straight over the Blues and right now they are up 3-0 against the Coyotes.

Meanwhile in the East, the Rangers have come down to the wire in the first and second rounds with a very close conference semi againt the #7 Caps (didn't follow that one close, did Ovi pull his finger out?) and round 1 was tight against the Senators.

So will the Kings make light work of the Coyotes and take it in 4 straight? Are the Rangers up for another 7 game series against the Devils, and have the first 2 rounds taken their toll on the Rangers leaving the door open for the Devils? I am not sure, but it would be interesting to see a Kings v Devils Stanley Cup Final...that's a lot of travel!

So there you have it, the Stanley cup will be contended between the LA Kings (#8 in the west) and the New Jersey Devils (#6 in the east). I don't think anyone saw that coming.

The Kings slayed the Canucks (4-1), the Blues (4-0) and the Coyotes (4-1) to stroll into the finals. Meanwhile, the Devils knocked off Florida (4-3), the Flyers (4-1) and the Rangers (4-2) to find themselves as LA's rivals for the cup.

The Stanley Cup finals series kicks off Wednesday in New Jersey and the winner of the Stanley Cup for 2012 should be known within 2 weeks from the first face-off.

Kings are up 1-0 in the series with an overtime goal. Game 2 starts in about 20mins!

Ooh...got the start time wrong by a day...but the Kings won game 2 in OT whatever day it was. So Kings up 2-0 and heading to home ice advantage. Are they in the driving seat now or is the pressure going to see them crumble?

Hmmm....Kings are up 3-0 with game 3 going 4-0 to them. Are the Kings on the verge of being unlikely victors and taken home their first ever Stanley Cup in 4 straight games? Can the Devils make a massive comeback from here to win 4 straight to win the cup?

Next game is Wednesday at with LA at home.

The Devils have stopped it from being a Kings whitewash with a 3-1 win in game 4. But that still leaves New Jersey down 3-1 in the series to LA with a lot of work to do if they want to take home the cup.

Devils get another one, but they still trail in the series 3-2 to the Kings. Game 6 is going back to Cali to see if LA can close it out and win the Stanley Cup on home ice, or maybe to see if the Devils can force game 7 and the home ice 'advantage'.

Default sweatin' it in L.A.

If we (L.A. kings and their fans) don't take it tonight, i'm not going to be able to show my face.
It's been a rough series vs Nj and i would not be comfortable with a game 7 in NJ.
I attended game 4 - getting a good deal on a ticket at $650 bucks. I read that some seats against the glass went for over $100K.
In any case ... The Kings need to finish up tonight and bring the cup to L.A.!! been a fan since the forum days and we need the boys to step up. They keep saying they haven't played their best hockey (and that seems true) but when do we get to save it. They need to loosen up on their sticks and relax a bit. we'll see in a couple hours!!
GO KINGS!

4-1 at the end of the 2nd Joey...are the Kings going to get there? I am stuck watching the scores unfold on my phone. But I am having a skate at the ice rink here in Melbourne while I keep an eye on the game.

Default yeah man...

we were really REALLY happy here!! that was incredible. i grew up going to lakers victory parades - but a kings parade...awesome it was. nobody had the kings picked - NOBODY. ,..but when they beat up vancouver - we secretly started wishing - wishing Quick would stay strong - wishing Kopi would jump in there - wishing carter's line would stay awake - wishing brown would lay some big hits - wishing doughty would jump in offensively and get back EVERYTIME!!
man - talk about dreams coming true. Too bad our jersey logo sucks.
