Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default Ultimate III parts?

This may sound like a dumb question, but I was wondering what parts from other skates can be used on an Ultimate III. One of our refs broke an axle on his Ultimate IIIs in the middle of practice tonight. Luckily, the rink pro shop actually had a spare, and the manager was able to fix his skate, but I'm a little worried that he will be SOL if this happens to him again. I know that Ultimate cushions can be used on Reactors; Fresh Eddie gave me a set, and they fit but were waaaaay too stiff for my liking. Would the trucks work as well?

Default Lots of things...

A-Town is right, UIIIs use Nova trucks... Cushions are a bit problematic but I have worked up a very nice conversion to use Power Trac Cushions... I will be posting some detailed pix of a simple one in the next day or so...

This arrangement is really sweet... there are several different durometers of P Trac cushions so tuning is a breeze....
Trucks... Boen work great with a Pro Line pivot bushing... The Pro line trucks can be made to work as well but the pivot cup requires some machine work to get the geometry just so...

Here are the Boen and Pro Line conversions...

Top is the Pro Line trucks. Note the truck is not quite square with the plate over the king pin. The Lower pair have The Boens... Both have been machined for Boen king pins as well...

I have not tried Reactor cushions as the king pin hole is loose when they are dropped over the pin.. That makes for some spooky handling...

Smile Doc, does the Ultimate IV also...

Use those Nova trucks?

If so let me know & I'll send you some of my spare trucks for your Magnum axle insertion services!

They do use Nova trucks.... HOWEVER, they require some washers and with that and the speed nuts you get a very wide wheel base....

Thumbs up Well Doc, If you could look through your drawer full of Nova Trucks...

And find 4 real purdy trucks, I've got the washers & speed nuts here. I'll send you some more trucks if you want them.

Do you have any fully threaded 7mm axles that are longer than Magnum axles?

Derrick...

OK by me.....

Derrick...
I don't think so... My axles get stored in old end mill cases so you can see how long they are.... I have never seen longer...but I have not seen 'em all I don't think..

Thumbs up O.K. Doc! Magnum axles sound good to me...

I was also wondering if my set of NOS, NTS Ultimate IV's are "Period Correct" for my Riedell stitchless 595's, or will I be guilty of era mixing? LMMAO!

a hanging offense... Those require 195s, Chesters or Pro Style Elites...

Cool Better get a rope...

Because I can't find any of those boots, so it's going to be the 595's.

Put your Black Diamonds on those 595s and put the UIV's on the Altamuras and you might be off the hook.

Wink How about these scenarios...

I'll just keep the One Hole Lasers on my Stitchless 595's, then I'll yard the Black Diamonds off of my Altamura Panthers.

Then I'll put Roger to work fixing my Oberhamer/Black Diamond setup & have him mount those Ultimate IV's on the Panthers.

Geez, I think it's going to be time to sell off some of my "extra" S/A plates.

Or perhaps Roger still has some White boots that he would consider selling to someone who would certainly appreciate them...
