Smile Jr Club beginning dance classes.

Jr Club.

Today I attended the beginning classes on Saturday morning at FVSC. We started doing the Glide Waltz, then Shelby said lets do the Glide Waltz in reverse direction? I said “you mean in the opposite directions/backwards” She said "No, Step raise Step, going backwards, so on and so forth”. I was baffled by this request. That is a advanced step.

Then one of the pros/teachers said “like the chase waltz”. Everybody did it and was skating fine, but I thought how can you go from a basic dance to a rather advanced one?

The next day I had scheduled a private lesson with Shelby. And I asked about the glide waltz skating backwards. She said “Larry , we have lot of kids that will be skating freshman or sophomore and they will need to skate the chase waltz"
It all made sense to advance the beginning kids as fast as possibly.

Larry O and happy Dance classes…lol!

A long time ago, I skated Chase Waltz in competition. My coach had already taken the time to prepare me to switch from Glide Waltz to Chase Waltz. Figures 1 & 2 are done forward and figures 3 & 4 are done backwards. By the time I started the Chase Waltz, I had already done figures 3 & 4 for at least a week.
- Just roll with it

Smile Gee hope you join a club and compete again!

Dear Gee,

I see you have changed your avatar..lol! It has a girl in the photo. I look forward to the day when you tell me you have joined an artistic club and will be competing again….lol!

In the short time I have been back skating in a real club (5.5 months), I have seen a lot of things. Club is growing and old people are coming out of the woodwork to start competing again. Girls and Boys auditioning for partners. The competition is starting to get tough and that is good/excellent.

I was viewing the 4th DVD of all the 2016 National competitions this year and came to the conclusion. Boys should not skate solo dance. They are just not fun to watch…lol! And Girls should skate solo if only a partner is not available.

If you are going to put boys and girls in the same flight you should have them skate together as in a “pick a partner” event. Dance is special and when boys and girls skate together that is entertaining. When boys and girls skate solo something is missing and the event becomes uneventful and not entertaining.

People should only skate one dance event. The same skater skating many solo dance or team dance events becomes boring. Same skater, just skating a different dance.

I know you feel the same way because you love to skate and skate a lot with girls at different rinks and frequent the rinks that still play organ music.

Larry O

P.S. There will be an all Regional meet in February and next on the event is duo creative dance. Two boys, two girls or a boy and a girl. My wish has come through…lol! Talk about stuff and then it becomes a reality. Need to get more dance teams going.

Today in or Jr Club, one of the pros asked a boy and girl to skate together. They did and I personally think they like it. It just took a little encouragement from the teachers….lol!
