This announcement is to let everyone know that after hosting the SkateLog Forum and its predecessors for nearly 20 years, I have decided it is time to permanently turn the forum over to a new owner and administrator. I cannot think of anyone more suitable to take on that role than my SkateLog forum co-host, Florida skater Jessica Wright. I am pleased to announce that Jessica has agreed to establish and host a brand new skating forum, configured like the SkateLog Forum, but with a new name and a new Web Site. This new forum is 100% owned and operated by Jessica.

Default Wheel Advice

Hi there, i am just getting interested in slalom and have some seba trix 2 on the way. I am looking to purchase some more wheels to ride rockered and wondered if anyone had used the following wheels and could offer any advice. Im not sure which shape wheel to go with and have narrowed it down to these 4 wheels.

Hyper concrete / Seba street invader
Matter Juice / Gyro Siren

I don't have much personal experience with any of these, so take this with a grain of salt:

I've had a lot of people tell me that Matter wheels are the best, so I would go with those if you can afford them.

Most of the top Chinese pros use Hyper wheels, but that might be due to sponsorship issues. By all accounts they're good wheels though.

I've only heard good things about Seba Street Invaders as well, they just don't come as highly recommended as the previous two.

I haven't heard anything about Gyro sirens.

Seba Street Invaders and Hyper Concrete mix well with each other because they have the same round and thick profile, and also similar hubs. They both have great grip and are not so slippery on wet surface like Matter wheels.

Naomi Grigg says in her book that elliptic profile gives you more control. Hyper makes also Create +G wheels that are the same material as Concrete but with elliptic profile. I used to like Matter Crazy Glue which are elliptic and have a nice grip but for some reason they made wheelings too difficult, maybe because they are softer than Matter Zafiro or Juice which are more commonly used for slalom.

I would suggest trying any of the above wheels and find out for yourself what you like most
(do not mix round and elliptic profiles though!) . I also tried many kinds of Gyro wheels but only liked F2R, GFR and Sonic/Sonya. In general I would say Gyro have inferior grip and durability but I weigh 80kg and skate mostly on asphalt. They are cheaper than the rest, but the more expensive Hypers or Invaders last me a couple of weeks longer

Thanks for the advice. Decided to go with the gyro sirens as they were on sale and almost half the price of the matter wheels. Intend to try them all out at some point so thought may aswell start with the cheapest first.
