Default White Satellite experiment

Ok I'm working on something over here and would like to see some examples of what your white Satellite and/or Omega plates look like. I would love to see the whitest set that are floating around for comparisons sake. Just wondering if any of you have a set that are still the white color I remember as a kid not the bone color it has changed to over time. I'd also like to see your worst pair floating around in the yellowish state.

I have been working on fixing discolored plastic items for some time now and the plates are my newest experiment. I have a really nice set (thanks again Airmandan) that are out in the sun now and are already starting to show some results. This process is not only free but it takes zero manual labor. A simple scrub in the sink every few days with soap and water to remove any airborne debris and you can just sit back and wait for the results your looking for.

I will post up some pics as this progresses and I will also show you guys an example of something I've fixed in the past just give me some time to get caught up on things.

So if any of you have pics of your white discolored or mint white plastic plates/trucks I'd love to see them for comparison

Thanks in advance
Brian

Doesn't the UV make nylon brittle?

Default I'm thinking the same thing...

If ya want white, try some Krylon Fusion paint...http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/

It doesn't seem to guys ?

Maybe over an extended period of time ? I only set them out in the sun for a few hours a day and I bring them in at night. They also get washed off pretty often so maybe the water stops them from becoming brittle ?

It was/is a concern of mine but I don't have any way of testing them as they are cleaned. I seriously doubt this process will cause any problems ? Never has with any of the BMX stuff I've done in the past and most of it was done to seats. Seats take a lot of abuse and they are much thinner then a skate plate so I'm pretty hopeful with this.

not looking to paint them Fred...I'd like to keep them in there original state and try to restore them to there original color

Here is a set of pedals that I did already with the sun as well as a set of the same pedals untouched (found at the same time in the same condition both were brand new and discolored from being in a bike shop basement for years) The one pedal set was disassembled and sat in the sun and the other has not for documentation sake.

Here is another pic of the one pedal with some plates to show how close the colors are.

another

and one with the cleaned pedal and a plate to show what I hope to accomplish

Looks like it's already starting to have an effect. It's hard to tell in the beginning but I'd say it's working...We'll see

I'd say another week or two with a few good days of sun and they will be really white again

I'll let you guys know as I see changes even though not many seem interested in this ?

Here's my old pair of Satellites, with Riedell 595s, Fafnirs, and a set of Wicked Lips wheels, exactly as they were when I last put them away in 1998 or 99.
