Exclamation Wheels vs Metal Bar Grating?

Hey all,

We have some pretty great skating routes here, but for the fact that a couple of the bridges and stairways on them are metal bar grating -- this stuff:

Is rolling this stuff as deadly to the wheels as I'd imagine it is? If so, does anyone have any slick ideas on how to deal with it? I'm considering fashioning some kind of skate guard for my inlines, just so I don't have to take the chance of having chunks gauged out of my precious wheels. ^_^;

Hi shadowspar,

In my opinion it doesn't hurt your wheels but hurt yourself instead. To lessen the chance of wheels caught in between is by skating it diagonally. Shift your balance so the weight is concentrated on rear wheels, it tends to make the skates bounce up. But if you want to minimize the chance of stumbling I suggest just stop and duckwalk or crossover walk them.
Drug myself until addicted to skating inline.
