Ask DocSk8 (Expert Indoor Skate Building Advice) This forum is different then the other SkateLog forums in that it is not a discussion forum, but rather a place you can ask skate building expert Fred "DocSk8" Benjamin about building and repairing indoor speed, derby, and jamskate quad roller skates. Default newbie Derby skater needs skate advice

Hi there-
I am new to Derby (banked track) and I need some skate buying advice. I am coming to you because I have hard to fit feet and you may be able to tell me which (brand of/or model) boots might work well for me.

My feet are size 7 women's and are very wide. I also have an extremely high instep (top of my foot- where the laces are). Women's skates are always too narrow for me and my feet get numb when I skate. I have tried men's skates with a little more luck.

I am thinking that leather would be my best bet because the boot will stretch to my foot with time. ?

What do you think? Any suggestions?

Thanks so much-

Leather is definitely the material of choice for derby boots...

Sounds like you need to consult directly with Riedell... They can modify the widths of their boots for a $55 (or more) up charge depending on what else has you want done... Note: If your feet are too far outside the norm, you may need full custom boots. NOT inexpensive...
