I just completed my first skate with endomond. Signed up with the social media connector, tweeted it up on my facebook wall, and am just amazed at how cool this thing is. It even tells you what song you listened to, at what point on the trail......

Totally amazing.

I've got an iPhone also. I usually skate with my Timex watch that has a GPS attachment for speed. On a skate last week, I took my phone and switched on the "Map My Ride" App. I was only on an out and back on a bike trial (that probably doesn't even register to any known streetmap)..... The Timex GPS and the iPhone Map my Ride App were off by quite a bit from each other. (about 3-4 miles off and several MPH) I tend to believe the satellite receptor from the watch as I think that distance matches up to my bike computer fairly closely.

Yeah, I think my endomondo is off by half a mile every ten miles. It reports 9.51 miles on a marked 10 mile course. Who knows.....

I don't know if anyone has suggested RunKeeper yet, but they have a setting for skating. It is OK. The GPS kills battery, though. I have been using it since March and like what data it tracks and reports to their website. You can get attachments to make it work with heart rate monitors also.

Default Strava app for Android & Iphone

I've been using the Android App "Strava", which is also available for iphone.

The app allows for biking, inline skating, skiing, kayaking, walking, jogging, and on and on. You can even create custom segments to see how well you're progressing. You can also find local segments and try to be KOM, King of the Mountain; which is to have the best time in a segment.

I've been using the app for about 8 months and have never had a problem with the GPS or calculations. From 66 mile bike rides to 2 mile skates, in the city or in very rural areas. One can also befriend another and follow them to see their progress.

At the very least you should check it out.

My $0.02.

I use My Tracks by google now. Haven't used Endomondo in a long time. The data collected in my tracks is awesome. Helps give accurate "moving" averages which helps because I skate and bike in the city and have to wait at traffic lights and stop signs which hurt your average.

Default Updated position

I switched to Endomondo on my iPhone, and I like it a lot. I have the pro version which doesn't provide a lot of additional features, but I wanted live update for interesting races. That said, the pro version is on sale for $1. I think it works better for skating than RunKeeper. The information seems more accurate for calories (based on workout type and HR), and for GPS. Also uses the same inputs for HR monitors and bike packs available from WaHoo fitness. The free version is solid also. They have recently updated the app to provide coaching for intervals, and they do a great job of updating the app with features based on requests from the user base.

I just bought a motorola MOTOACTV gps tracker for races; I hate carrying my phone during the marathons. It's actually pretty neato - it's just a little bit bigger than my iPod nano, I can clip it to my shorts or wear it on my wrist; it has a mp3 player in it and a ton of different sport options. It also has a heart rate monitor, I'm just too dumb to figure out how to set it up.... I got it for about $180 on Ebay. It also has wireless headphones if you want to go that route: I usually only keep one headphone in (right side) so I can still hear bikes coming up behind me. Overall it's pretty cool and seems a bit more accurate than my Endomondo. The online community is not as interactive so I still use both.

I think I will load up Endomondo again and take it for a spin. My new phone has extremely accurate GPS and that was an irritant with my past two phones.

I miss the calorie counter....I was biking for almost 2 hours today. Surely with the heat I must have killed some serious calories. Going up those hills is tough.

Just a question on the wireless headphones? If you get a call can you talk with the caller through the headphones? I believe my droid has blue tooth capability but have never thought of wireless. The hardwire works fine for music and telephone calls even doing both tasks at the same time when I skate and talk.

This depends on the headphones, but yes, most (I have the Motorola S3 bluetooth headphones) will allow you to answer calls. There is typically a mic built in like with the smaller ear pieces. Check the specs on the sportier looking headsets, though, as they may not allow you to answer calls.
