Calorie estimates from devices (not just smartphone apps) are mostly bologna anyway.

Some years ago, I notice that I would get much higher calorie numbers if I set my Garmin to record my skates as "other" instead of "bicycle". Later, I saw that it would compute calories even without heart rate data and didn't even complain about what I thought was essential data.
